ARMOS has undertaken the supply contract for the precast tunnel lining segments of the TBM-excavated tunnel for the new Metro Line 4.
The project, valued at approximately €30 million for the company, involves the production and transportation of precast concrete segments to the Metro construction sites. These segments will form around 8,000 rings, shaping the final ~12 km tunnel of the new Athens Metro line.
This is the longest Metro tunnel in Greece ever tendered under a single contract and the first project requiring the simultaneous operation of two tunnel boring machines (TBMs). The general contractor for Section A: Alsos Veikou–Goudi (12.8 km and 15 stations) is the AVAX-Ghella-Alstom consortium.
With extensive experience in Metro tunneling projects, ARMOS has invested €1 million to optimize project execution. This investment successfully doubled the production capacity of the Oinofyta facility, enabling the simultaneous supply of the two TBMs for Line 4.
Notably, ARMOS has previously manufactured tunnel lining segments and sleepers for all past Metro expansions in Athens, as well as for Thessaloniki’s Metro lines.
The new Metro Line 4, with a budget of €1.8 billion, is the largest infrastructure project currently planned within the European Union. It is set to radically reshape the transportation network across the Athens metropolitan area.
